Sok Eng is an experienced SEN Officer who has 7 years of experience helping and educating children with special needs and is also a Fellow member of the Register of Educational Therapists, Asia (RETA). She was motivated to be a member as the RETA platform allows her to gain recognition as a certified Educational Therapist by a reputable organisation. Also, as a member, she is able to learn more from the RETA sharing sessions and networking with professionals in the same field.
Sok Eng believes that everyone has some abilities despite his/her disabilities and she hopes to help bring out these abilities, polish them so that they can radiate. Through this process, she hopes these individuals will discover and better understand themselves, eventually gaining more confidence.
Her motivation to strive comes from the stakeholders being receptive to her suggestions and them rendering the necessary suggested support. In her years of experience, she found that, after a period of evidence-based intervention, the children acquire significant gains in the targeted skills and the people around them begin to recognise their improvement. These children become more motivated and want to keep learning and growing.
She is a firm believer that all things are possible when the expectation is reasonable – use the right approach and give adequate time to see the progress.
Her words of wisdom,
Everyone has his/her abilities and can contribute to the betterment of the society.
