Shakthi has ten years of experience teaching students with Specific Learning Differences (SpLD). She works with preschoolers facing early learning challenges and supports primary and secondary students with dyslexia. She was drawn to this field after meeting many kind, funny, and hardworking children with incredible qualities who, unfortunately, often feel inadequate because they struggle to keep up in school. Wanting to help, she became an educational therapist to support these students in recognizing
their strengths and building confidence.
She loves working with students who learn differently—whether it’s sharing a laugh over their jokes or seeing them finally succeed at something they once found too difficult. Watching them feel proud of themselves is the best part of her job. When asked about the most important qualities for working in Special Education, Shakthi believes it’s
not just about patience—it’s about understanding that every child and parent is doing their best with the resources they have, just like educators. While challenges are inevitable, having this perspective helps her stay motivated. Even the toughest days often turn into stories to laugh about later, and a sense of humour makes all the difference.
Shakthi is also an Associate Fellow with the Register of Educational Therapists, Asia (RETA), which helps her stay up to date with best practices through ongoing learning and professional development. She has access to invaluable updates and complimentary webinars, ensuring she remains informed about the latest trends and innovations in the field.
