Patricia Mui Hoon Ng

Patricia M. H. Ng is an experienced educational consultant who specialises in educational therapy for children with and without special needs, from preschool to secondary levels. Her ability to engage with children and help them make improvements in their studies has garnered her much support from the parents. Patricia has also taught pre-service and in-service teacher courses in special education and conducted research projects in early childhood and special education.
Why did you choose to work in the field of SpLD?
My son was diagnosed with ADHD during preschool and I wasn’t able to help him effectively, so I took up further studies in a Master in Special Education.
What is one thing that never fails to make you smile in the work that you do?
The sweet success after the implementation of meticulous plans based upon sound principles of teaching.
What do you think is the most important quality/value/belief a person must have when working in the field of Special Education?
Able to reflect on the lessons pros and cons, bounce back and work harder.
What is the one thing you would do to improve special education in your country?
Increase awareness of special needs at different stages of life.
What motivated you to become a RETA member and how has it benefitted you?
Great support in avenues for resources such as conferences, publications, teaching materials, current affairs and marketing for clients.
What advice would you give someone who has special educational needs or lives/works with people with special educational needs?
Always keep an open mind and a growth mindset.
