To further expand her field of expertise, she has attended training and conferences highlighting programs for Reading Fluency and Spelling at the Lindamood-Bell Seeing Stars, Dyscalculia and Advanced Literacy at the DAS Academy, Early Intervention Practice in Singapore, Life Skills, Writing, Behaviour Management, and Sensory Integration.

Why choose the SpLD field? – Dianne hopes to creatively nurture a learning environment for children with special needs to see school as a place for growth, learning, and well-being. She shares that having perseverance is very important when working with children with special needs. There are times therapists feel burned out but they push forward to help the child become more engaged in learning and participating in other areas of their lives.

Dianne highlights that it is crucial to create systematic and structured support programs, continuously implement developmentally-appropriate educational tools and strategies for students in the mainstream settings in order to improve special education in Singapore.

Her words of wisdom,

Always have the best interest of children with special needs in mind. Although there is so much work that needs to be done, by and large though, empathy is an asset. As a special education teacher, I firmly believe that the purpose of education is to prepare our students for life.
