Malavika is a Fellow member of the the Register of Educational Therapists, Asia (RETA). RETA provides her with the opportunity to meet and network with professionals in the SpLD field. These professionals – their drive and passion inspires her. Malavika’s work as a psychological and educational therapist allows her to work on intrapersonal, mental health, family, and educational challenges. Her work experience as a mental health and human services professional has provided her the opportunity for continuous learning and experiences of diverse cultures and environments. These experiences have given her a holistic view of human difficulties, potential, and problem-solving.
As an educational therapist in Singapore, Malavika has worked with over 300 academically challenged students in a secondary vocational school, providing holistic remedial experience, combining therapeutic skills with the soft skills of counselling and support. In private educational therapy, she believes strongly in customising the therapy to suit the student’s strengths and challenges, and in involving the family members in supporting the child and reinforcing the learning at home.
Apart from being an educational therapist, she is also an ACTA certified trainer.
Malavika chose the SpLD field because the academic challenges of children with emotional and behavioural challenges concerned her. She believes that every individual child has potential and to be able to help the child achieve his/her full potential, it is important for special needs educators to think out of the box when planning lessons.
Her words of wisdom,
Compare only with what YOU were yesterday, not with anybody else. Focus and develop your strengths along with working on your challenges.
