Mrs. Fehmina Khan

Associate Fellow

My experience in teaching students with learning differences eventually led me to teaching children with special learning needs from economically impoverished backgrounds. While I have touched the lives of many children and watched my students successfully make their way into college, each student feels to me like a beacon of hope- a hope for their own future and growth.

Why did you choose to work in the field of SpLD?

To support students with learning differences.

What is one thing that never fails to make you smile in the work that you do?

Small achievements; be it passage read without mistakes or a math sum solved independently!

What do you think is the most important quality/value/belief a person must have when working in the field of Special Education?

Patience and a strong belief that every small step matters.

What is the one thing you would do to improve special education in your country?

All schools should cater to students with special educational needs and adapt their curriculum according to these students’ strengths.

What motivated you to become a RETA member and how has it benefitted you?

After attending the certificate courses at DAS, I realized how advanced Singapore is in supporting students with learning differences- it has been a learning platform for me throughout my teaching years, till today. I have been able to import so many ideas and techniques to make learning easier, and more fun for my students here in Pakistan.

What advice would you give someone who has special educational needs or lives/works with people with special educational needs?

Special Educational needs are never a hurdle that you can’t cross. With strong willpower and proper support, you can achieve anything! No one can stop you.
