RETA’s Guiding Values

The role of an Educational Therapist is to provide individualised intervention based on a student’s assessed Specific Learning Difference* profile.

RETA adopts the following guiding values of Respect, Integrity, Competence and Empathy (RICE)[1] to aid in the understanding of the behaviour and standards expected of Educational Therapists working in the field of Specific Learning Differences. These guiding values place a responsibility on Educational Therapists to always be aware of their conduct, and be conscious of creating an environment where all are proud and happy to function in.

* A Specific Learning Difference (SpLD) encompasses a range of strengths and weaknesses that impacts upon a person’s ability to acquire certain skills despite traditional instruction. The Register of Educational Therapists (Asia) – RETA believes that all learners can be empowered to reach their fullest potential and experience success when provided with constructive and sound learning strategies.

 

For RETA

  1. Endeavor to contribute to the realisation of RETA’s mission, objectives, and targets.
  2. Demonstrate integrity when carrying out responsibilities and obligations towards RETA and its clients in compliance with the law.
  3. Assume personal accountability for fostering and upholding positive relationships with clients, fellow professionals, and various organisations.
  4. Uphold the integrity and standing as a member of RETA in both public and media representations.

 

For Self

  1. Uphold exemplary personal conduct consistently and refrain from engaging in any actions that could tarnish your own reputation or that of RETA.
  2. Continuously enhance your professional growth by developing your skills, knowledge, and attitudes, and support your colleagues in their own professional development.

 

For RETA Clients

  1. Aim to create a favourable experience for every client
  2. Honor the rights, needs, goals, and trust of each individual, regardless of gender, age, social status, culture, or religion, and promote equal opportunities for all
  3. Acknowledge and support the reasonable desires and goals of parents, guardians, and students
  4. Uphold the strict confidentiality of personal data
  5. Strive to help students reach their maximum educational potential to the best of your ability
  6. Do not commit and to report any actions/relationship or physical environment that could harm colleagues or clients, and specifically refrain from engaging in or permitting any form of abuse towards any of the RETA clients, whether physical, verbal, sexual, psychological, or otherwise.
