Synopsis:

Have you ever wondered why your child struggles to perform a simple routine task such as packing their school bag or even getting ready on time? Planning, organisation and self-monitoring skills are three common essential skills that students struggle in, which affect not only their academic performance but their day to day routine. Though seemingly simple, planning and organisation refers to more than just tracking information. It also describes the process of organising tasks and thoughts. For example, when given a long-term assignment such as writing a report, a person must break down the assignment into smaller steps, consider other factors such as extra-curricular activities, account for specific instructions, among others. With that, they also need to understand how to monitor and regulate their emotions while completing the given task. This session therefore focuses on these skills and lecturers will be sharing strategies to develop them as it is imperative for practitioners and parents who work with these children to learn how to better support them in this area.
