Synopsis:
Exploring spellings meaningfully
Morphology (prefixes, suffixes and roots) is integral to understanding words – it literally makes sense of them. This approach can be transformative for all learners, but especially for dyslexics, whose phonological difficulties mean they have struggled with a purely phonics based approach.
Having repeatedly observed learners with dyslexia struggle to acquire fluent reading and spelling skills using traditional phonic approaches, Louise created Morph Mastery, which was published in the UK by Routledge in 2021. Designed as a compendium of resources, Morph Mastery offers intervention strategies that learners, educators and parents enjoy, and that work.
In this workshop you’ll gain an overview of how and why morphology works, and why it matters. You’ll gain some ideas for how to use it with your learners in fun and engaging ways. You’ll gain some strategies to take away and try straight away.
