Bio About

Formerly a journalist, Chen Wei Teng switched to teaching when she discovered her passion in helping learners with literacy difficulties master the English language. She has 19 years of experience providing effective interventions  to learners struggling with literacy. She has worked with at-risk teenagers from disadvantaged family backgrounds at NorthLight School (Singapore) where she played an integral role in  implementing the school’s literacy support programme for students with dyslexia and other splds. She previously also served as a Senior Educational Therapist at the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS), where she was part of the curriculum team that designed comprehensive frameworks for learning for dyslexic students and also contributed to teacher training programs.

Also a picture book author and a musical storyteller, Wei Teng now runs her own literacy studio, The Oak Planters, providing educational therapy services for learners with dyslexia and other splds (https://www.theoakplanters.com/).

She is also an adjunct lecturer with DAS Academy where she equips educators with skills on how to work with neurodivergent learners.

Testimonial

Wei Teng possesses an in-depth understanding of the learning difficulties faced by students, as well as a comprehensive knowledge of effective literacy intervention strategies. She went on to establish herself as a leader in literacy intervention in the school, planning and implementing our literacy support programme for students reading below their chronological age and had various learning needs, including dyslexia, ADHD and learning EL as a second language.

In addition, Wei Teng is an incredible team player and collaborator. She played an integral role in reviewing the school’s literacy support programme in 2022 and 2023, leading colleagues in piloting new initiatives.

Wei Teng’s exceptional qualities are evidenced by the awards, nominations and compliments from parents that she has received, including the Caring Teacher Award 2022 (winner, School Level, Secondary), the SERVE@ NorthLight School Award 2022 (winner), Inspiring Teacher of English Award 2022 and 2023 (nominee), Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Listening Educator for Advancement and Progress (LEAP) Award 2023 (nominee).
